Leagues & Teams

Oxenhope Bowling Club enters teams in the following summer leagues, which normally commence during April and conclude in August:

  • Monday afternoon Worth Valley Veterans league. This is a 6 person team for players over the age of 60, playing doubles. We have one team in the first division at present. There is scope for new bowlers to participate in this league as there are four divisions.
  • Monday evening Hebden Royd league. This league has 2 divisions and is open to all ages. It is a singles league with 8 person teams. We currently run 2 teams in this league in divisions 1, 2 respectively, so we cater for the full range of players from novice to very experienced.
  • Tuesday evening Airedale Wharfedale doubles league. We have 2 teams in this league open to all ages. These are 8 person teams playing doubles and we have a team in each of the two divisions operated by the league. As with our Monday night teams the two doubles teams cater for players of all abilities and are open to all ages.
  • Wednesday afternoon Airedale Wharfedale singles league. There are two divisions in this league playing singles in teams of 8 persons. Our team is in division 1 and is open to all ages. The standard is mixed and therefore suitable for bowlers at all levels.
  • Thursday afternoon Halifax veterans’ league. We have one team in the first division of this 6 man singles league which is a good standard. This is open to players over 60 years of age
  • Thursday evening Skipton Merit League. We have one 8 person team in the second division open to all ages playing at a decent standard.
  • Friday evening Hebden Royd League. This is a league concentrated on players who do not play in the higher divisions. The league determines player handicaps and anyone with a handicap of 4 or higher qualifies to play. We have one 6 person team in this league.
  • Saturday afternoon Airedale Wharfedale singles league. We are in the top division where there is a wide variation in standard, so this team suits both experienced and not so experienced players. The league is open to all ages.

In addition to the above summer leagues the club enters a team in the Skipton floodlit league towards the end of the summer season. This is an evening league which spans the months of September and October and is open to all ages. It is suitable for all-comers, ranging from novices to experienced players, as the league groups team entries each year into divisions based on the experience of the players in each team. This is an 8 person team playing 4 singles and two doubles.

During the winter months the club enters a team in the indoor short mat bowling league which takes place on Thursday afternoons from October through to March at Victoria Hall, Keighley. This is a four person team playing doubles and is suitable for all age groups and all players regardless of experience. In addition club members enter teams in the winter leagues held at Salts, Halifax and Hove Edge Bowling Clubs.
